About the History of Education Project

The History of Education Project was established in Durham in 1982 .
The Project is a registered charity, number 1079333. It is staffed by volunteers, and is housed in the Miners’ Hall, Red Hill, Durham City DH1 4BB under the directorship of Professor Gordon Batho.
We publish a number of books on the political, social and economic history of north-east England
We organise the biennial Thomas Harriot Seminar, and publish the Harriot Occasional Papers and the Harriot Lecture
We organise and publish the annual Hartop Lecture
We organise an annual tour in the UK with an historical theme
We look after a large collection of school history textbooks dating from 1840 onwards – these can be viewed by appointment
